Tuesday FORUM, 4-30-13: 5th Tuesday Podcasts from the Internet

Our Tuesday Forum features a variety of topics hosted and produced locally, but once every three or four months, on the 5th Tuesday, we reach out to the Internet and bring back significant podcasts produced by others (which is, BTW, the constant purpose of our Monday Forum, 6-7 PM).

Monday FORUM, 4-29-13, 6-7 PM: Sierra Club Radio & Planetary Radio

First, a recent podcast from the Sierra Club, giving news and information about our planet, its environment, and how to better live with this in mind. Then, from The Planetary Society, we hear the latest about astronomy and space science. WHFR Spring Fundraiser at New Place Lounge TONIGHT (April 27) Featuring the "Detroit Blues Revue"

WHFR is also hosting a special spring benefit concert titled “Detroit Blues Revue” from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. April 27 at New Place Lounge, 22723 Michigan Ave. in Dearborn. It will feature regional musicians, including Big Ray and the Motor City Kings, Motor City Josh and the Big 3 and Motor City Slim. Attendees must be 21 and older to attend. Donations are $5 at the door. Food and beverages are available for purchase. Earth Day Celebrated Through Music on "Theme Attic," Thursday, April 25th, 10AM-Noon!

Earth Day was observed earlier this week, but "Theme Attic," the radio show that picks themes and plays music from a variety of genres about selected subjects, feels that it is too important of a day to ignore. There will be plenty of songs featuring recycling, climate control, and endangered species to draw attention to subjects that deserve more attention than one day per year. Guitarist Roy Scoutz Debuts New CD, "Letters from Starfield" on "Theme Attic," Thursday, April 18th, 10AM-Noon!

It's "Radiothon 2013" at the station and guitarist Roy Scoutz is going to be in the studio and he's bringing along his new CD! He'll be talking about his new project as well as other music, and anything else that pops up. There will also be some of the usual "Theme Attic" elements as we have fun while taking listener pledges! WHFR Radiothon 2013 Begins Today!!!

WHFR Radiothon 2013 is now in full effect starting today, Sunday April 14th, and running through Saturday March 20th. For 51 weeks of the year, WHFR always pledges to provide YOU, our "loyal listener," with fantastic, alternative programming in order to support your entertainment needs. Now, FOR ONE WEEK ONLY, we ask you to pledge your financial support for our wonderful radio station. We'll have some special surprises during the week and great incentive giveaways that you can receive simply by making your much needed donation.

Space is the Place features voices from outer space Friday 4/12/13 6-8pm

Tune in to Space is the Place and DJ Tom Wilson to hear the voice of the first person in space, Cosmonaut Yuri Garagin, from aboard the Soviet spacecraft Vostock on the 52nd anniversary of this historic journey into the unknown. Also featured will be the space rockers Hawkwind and their recording of "Bring Me the Head of Yuri Garagin." This was recorded live at Wembly Stadium in 1973 and it includes excerpts of Yari Garagin speaking from his spacecraft during this pioneering space venture. The critically acclaimed brand new release of Todd Rundgren titled "Space" will be showcased as well.

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony takes place next week when WHFR will be in the middle of "Radiothon."
