Monday FORUM, 2-20-12, 6-7 PM: Philosophy Talk & EarthSky 8

The Oscars will be announced next Sunday. But the winners are often criticized as being trivial, just cheap thrills. But are there some movies that tackle the bigger philosophical questions? With the help of listeners and special guests, John Perry and Ken Taylor, two Sanford U. philosophy professors, turn a philosophical eye to the past year's cinematic offerings, and present their 4th annual Dionysus Awards for the most philosophically-rich films of the past year in this episode of "Philosophy Talk." Also, "EarthSky 8" presents an interview with Joseph DeSimone. Among DeSimone’s notable inventions is an environmentally friendly manufacturing process that relies on supercritical carbon dioxide instead of water and bio-persistent surfactants (detergents) for the creation of fluoropolymers or high-performance plastics, such as Teflon.
